Top Tools We Recommend
Different coat types need different tools
Short haired dogs
such as chihuahuas, boxers, pugs, pit bulls and their mixes need a "Zoom Groom" rubber curry brush from Kong. These dogs shed year round, growing new hair every 28 days so it is recommended to wash them once a month to help control excessive shedding.

Double coated dogs
such as border collies, retrievers, shepherds, huskies, pomeranians and their mixes need a couple of tools. A metal greyhound comb, slicker brush and undercoat rakes. Each of these breeds have different coat types and could definetly use more than on rake along with the comb and brush.

Slicker brushes
These are universal tools for all medium to long haired coated dogs such as shih tzu, lhasa apso, pekenese, long coated chihuahuas, long coated dachshunds, poodles and their mixes.

Greyhound Comb
Each pet parent should have a metal greyhound comb. It is a key tool for all dogs who have either a medium, long or double coated coat type. There are many out there but the Andis Greyhound Comb in a great choice and come in two sizes, large or small.
Line brushing method
To line brush, start at the foot and work up the leg and thigh by lifting a portion of the hair to expose the skin. Brush the fur underneath the portion you're holding up, and brush the fur in the direction of growth. Check your work with a comb!

Introductions at home
Proper introduction to brushes and combs is vital for pets. Introduce your puppy to brushing as early as possible so they get used to the feeling of being groomed.
Brush gently in the direction of the hair growth, taking care not to pull or tug on the hair. Use short, gentle strokes rather than long, forceful ones. Reward your puppy with treats or praise during and after brushing to help them associate grooming with positive experiences. If they are objective to the brush or comb use the back side to gently massage them to desensitize them.
